DarwinAI Recognized as Top Tech Startup at 2018 Toronto Timmy Awards
Toronto, ON - October 22, 2018
DarwinAI was recognized as one of Ontario’s top Tech startups at a prestigious ceremony in Toronto last week. The announcement was made at the fourth annual Timmy Awards at Revival nightclub, which brought together 300 tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, startups and thought leaders. The elite list of finalists included notable companies like Coinsquare, ShorCan TMX, Ritual and Vena Solutions.
DarwinAI was selected as runner up in the hotly contest Best Tech Startup category, a reflection of its growing status as one of the leading Artificial Intelligence startups in Canada. Founded by academics at the University of Waterloo, the company’s technology leverages AI itself to generate highly optimized deep neural networks without sacrificing functional accuracy. Moreover, their IP enables ‘explainable’ deep learning – the ability to understand why a neural network reaches the conclusions it does, which is especially critical in highly regulated industries.
“Toronto is a hub for fast-growing, innovative companies. The Best Tech Startup category aims to elevate the most progressive of these companies in the tech industry,” said Mandy Walker, Director of Marketing at Tech in Motion and Motion Recruitment Partners. “It is clear from the response received by the community and our judges that DarwinAI deserves this recognition.”
Sheldon Fernandez, CEO of DarwinAI, was suitably enthused. “We are honored to be recognized as one of the region’s top Tech startups, which reflects our efforts to build a creative and progressive organization worthy of our technology. Honors such as this are critical in recognizing the entrepreneurial and tolerant spirit of all the nominees that make Ontario such a hotbed for top technical minds.”
